The Class C1 girls' basketball state championship game was what everyone was looking for - undefeated Lincoln Christian against one-loss Milford. Milford’s only loss came to LC in the holiday tournament and only by two points.
The score was tied at 15-15 after the first quarter and 25-25 at halftime. LCHS outscored the Eagles 12-6 in the third, and that was the difference in the game.
Milford outscored the Crusaders 22-8 on points in the paint and 11-5 off turnovers. LCHS, however, made 9-27 from three while MHS was 4-22 from beyond the arc. Lincoln Christian went 12-18 fro mthe free throw line, while the Eagles hit eight of 21 attempts.
Ayla Roth led all scorers with 18 points. Shayla Rautenberg scored 14 and had 17 rebounds.
The Eagles finish the season with a 25-2 record, with both losses to Lincoln Christian. Roth, Izzy Yeackley, Taylor Oldfield and Karlee Kuklis will graduate in May. Both Roth and Yeackley have committed to Concordia University in Seward for basketball, and Oldfield has committed to Doane University in Crete for basketball.
