Michael Floyd Baack of Utica was born Nov. 29, 1954, to Floyd “Shorty” and Elverna M. (Suhr) Baack in Seward.

He attended Centennial High School in Utica, graduating in 1973. On July 27, 1973, Mike was united in marriage to Carol Stoll in Ulysses. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Mike was a farmer, cattle producer and truck driver. He worked hard to find time to spend with his friends and family. He especially cherished time with his grandkids, they were the joy and delight of his life. He was best known for his contagious smile and ability to make people laugh. One of his favorite spots was a seat at the “wisdom table” for coffee each morning. Mike passed away Aug. 18, 2023, in Seward, at the age of 68.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Baack of Utica; children, Rachel (Will) Williams of Ainsworth, Daphne (Cory) Petersen of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Michaela (Nate) Rasmussen of Malcolm, and Nathan Baack (Danielle) of Utica; grandchildren, Jenna and Jensen Williams, Madeline, Rockwell and Neysha Petersen, Sophie Walker, Finley and Harper Rasmussen, and Wyatt, Dakota and Gage Boyer; brother, Theodore (Sandy) Baack of Wayne; sisters, Beverly (Allen) Hain of Seward, Darla Wilson of McCook, and Diane (Kenny) Struble of Seward. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Elverna Baack.

A gathering of family ad friends will be at Volzke Funeral Home from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. There will be a private family service with committal at the Utica Cemetery. There will be a gathering for food and fellowship at the Baack Ag Shop on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 2 – 5 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested in care of the Baack family.
