Mary Ann Soukup

Mary Ann Soukup was born Nov. 23, 1948, in Valparaiso to Joseph and Albina (Hromas) Bejvancesky and passed away Nov. 1, 2019, in Lincoln at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was a 1967 graduate from Columbus High School. Mary was united in marriage to Joseph Soukup on May 11, 1968, at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight, and they were blessed with six children.

Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and we can’t forget the love she had for her sidekick, Princess. Mary had a great love for baking kolaches, rolls and bread, sewing, gardening and canning. Mary was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker for Joe and their kids. Mary also helped Joe on the farm. She wasn’t afraid to jump on the tractor or the grain truck to haul grain from the fields. She was active with her children’s and grandchildren’s activities by always being present and cheering them on. Mary was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and was also a member of the Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Albina Bejvancesky; parents-in-law, Joseph and Lillian Soukup; her loving son, Don Soukup; sister-in-law, Lillian Soukup; and brother-in-law, John Soukup.

Mary is survived by her husband, Joseph of Dwight; five children, Mary Jo Roth and husband Randy of Seward, Joe Soukup and wife Shelly of Ulysses, Annette Cornelison and husband Isaac of Marionville, Missouri, Deb Hayek and husband Matt of Seward and Kristy Peterson and husband Fred of Seward; 16 grandchildren, Steven Roth, Lydia Roth, Christopher Hansen, Justin Hansen, Jordan Hansen, Isaac Cornelison, Samantha Hayek, Saratoga Hayek, Cheyenne Hayek, Thunder Hayek, Chelsey Kosmicki, Jake Soukup, Nick Wegner, Sidney Soukup, Madison Soukup and Reese Soukup; great-grandchildren; four siblings, Byron Bejvancesky and wife Margaret, Diane Bejvancesky, Joe Bejvancesky and Barb Siedlik and husband Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary service was held Nov. 5, 2019, at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with the Rev. Raymond Jansen celebrating mass. A graveside service and interment will follow in Assumption Catholic Cemetery near Dwight.
