Malcolm softball started the first year of its co-op with Lincoln Lutheran with a 1-2 weekend.
The Clippers were at a tournament in Aurora Aug. 21 and lost their opener to Norris 4-3. Malcolm defeated Auburn 6-2 and lost to Aurora 11-3 to end the day.
Malcolm and Norris were tied 3-3 going into the seventh inning. With the tiebreaker rule in effect (each team starts with a runner on second base), Norris singled to drive in their runner and take the lead.
Malcolm’s Lily Bietz was on second to start the Clippers’ half of the inning. She advanced to third on a bunt by Kya Bratrsovsky, who then stole second. Bietz was picked off third base for the first out.
Kaylee Christensen walked, but Malcolm’s next two batters recorded outs to finish the game.
Morgan Tiedeman and Mackenzie Weseman each hit doubles for Malcolm. Christensen pitched six innings and struck out three.
Malcolm’s bats got going in the win over Auburn, with four Clippers recording multiple hits. Tiedeman and Weseman had three each, including a two-run home run by Weseman. Baylee Parr and Abby Precht had two hits each. Weseman finished with four RBIs.
Karli Farritor pitched all seven innings and struck out six.
Aurora had the hot bats in the final game, pounding 15 hits off Malcolm pitching. Malcolm had seven hits in the game, led by a 2-3 outing from Weseman.
Christensen and Elizabeth DeFreece joined efforts for MHS in the circle and struck out a combined seven in the game.
Up next for Malcolm (1-2) was a visit from Wahoo Aug. 25, a visit from NEN Thursday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m. and a trip to Wisner Saturday, Aug. 29, for the NEN Viper Invite starting at 9 a.m.
MHS is back home Tuesday, Sept. 1, to host Ralston at 6:30 p.m.
