Joseph Gary “Joe” Cihal, Jr. was born to Joseph and Sylvia (Eret) Cihal on April 29, 1948, at David City and joined his Heavenly Father on Sept. 28, 2025, at Bryan West in Lincoln at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 30 days.

Joe grew up in the Dwight area, where he attended Assumption Elementary and later graduated from East Butler. After graduating, he was in the Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Colleen Ehman, and they were blessed with two daughters. Joe farmed with his father in the Dwight area and later worked at the Henningson Egg Plant in David City until retirement. He also enjoyed helping others during harvest time. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting toy cars and mugs, time with his friends, praying while watching EWTN, and spending time with his cat, Stormy.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Betty Lou Kobza and Nadine Ann Dobesh-Hruska.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Courtney (Brian) Urbanek, and Katie Cihal; two grandsons, Christian Urbanek and Patrick Urbanek; sister, Joyce Marie Krska; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 1 – 8 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward with family receiving friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight with interment at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cihal family for future designations.
