Janice Coder, age 83, of Ames, Iowa, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at Deerfield Retirement Center in Urbandale, Iowa.

She was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Seward, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Soukup) Pavel. She graduated from Seward High School in 1957.

Janice was united in marriage to Johnny Coder on April 12, 1958, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Seward. The couple farmed in eastern Nebraska for many years. They bought a farm and moved to Ames in 1984. Janice worked right alongside of Johnny on the farm.

Janice and Johnny enjoyed traveling the world together and kept in contact with relatives and friends in the Czech Republic and Russia. They spent several winters in Arizona upon retiring from farming. Johnny was always number one in her eyes, but her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a close second. Janice was a wonderful musician. She played the organ at her church in Nebraska, and she also played the accordion. In her free time, Janice enjoyed tending her garden, taking care of her flowers, putting together puzzles and baking.

Janice is survived by her husband, Johnny; children, Jodi (Jim) Palik of Seward, Jackie (Steve) Petersen of Papillion, John (Rachel) Coder of Ames, Loran (Denise) Coder of Waukee, Iowa, and Clayton (Laurie) Coder of Urbandale; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister; and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother.

Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 4 at Saint Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames with interment at Ames Municipal Cemetery. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.adamssoderstrum.com.
