Janet LaRae (Hitchcock) Bejot passed away June 16, 2023, in Lincoln. She was the daughter of Frank and Vera Hitchcock. She was born at the Ainsworth Hospital in Ainsworth on May 15, 1936.

She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1954. She attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado, in 1954-1955 and transferred to Chadron State Teachers College for the school year of 1955-1956. In 1958, she received her License of Practical Nursing from Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Pierre, South Dakota. She attended Concordia University in Seward and, in 1982, completed three years of college in elementary education.

Janet married Dennis David Bejot on Dec. 30, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Ainsworth. Two children were born to this union, Mark David on June 26, 1960, in Ainsworth, and David Lee Bejot on Dec. 13, 1965, in Lincoln.

Janet worked in nursing at the Ainsworth Hospital in Ainsworth, Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln  and Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa, while her husband was getting his Doctor of Philosophy degree at Iowa State University.

Janet was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She was an active member teaching Sunday School, Bible School, nursery attendant, serving on various committees and participating in Bible study during her lifetime. She served at churches in Ainsworth, Kearney and Seward and the United Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa and Lawrence, Kansas. She was active in her community, serving on the Meals on Wheels program, Women’s Club, Welcome Wagon, Chat & Stitch, Elks Club as a Doe and the nursing association as a member. She was active as a Cub Scout den mother and 4-H club leader. Most of all, she loved being a mother to her sons.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis D. Bejot, PhD; parents, Frank and Vera Hitchcock; uncle Julian, uncle Howard, and aunt Edna Hitchcock, uncle Harold, aunts Glenda Smith, Judy Saville, and uncle Floyd Gould and aunt Evalyn Gould; brothers-in-law, Francis, Victor, Lewis Bejot, Norman Larabee; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Van Doozer; and daughters-in-law, Julie Marie (Rathje) Bejot and Patti (Willis) Bejot.

Survivors include sons, Mark Bejot, Maywood, and David (Cynthia) Bejot, Temperance, Michigan; granddaughters, Lorinda (Bejot) and Joe Mollenkamp, Wichita, Kansas, and Megan (Bejot) and James Chandler, Lincoln; and sister-in-law, Loridean Larabee, Neligh.

The funeral service was June 24 at Seward United Methodist Church with committal at the Ainsworth Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church. Arrangements by Volzke Funeral Home.
