James Albert Rotter, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Bryan Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Lincoln, to Albert and Marguerite (Murray) Rotter. He graduated from high school in 1952 and later graduated from the University of Nebraska with a business degree in 1958. Later, he graduated from the Madison School of Banking in 1966. His lifetime career was as a federal bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for 33 years in the cities of Columbus, North Platte, Norfolk and Sioux City, Iowa. He was an army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict. James was an honorary member of the third degree of the Knights of Columbus Fitzgerald Council #833, fourth degree honorary member of the Chalice Club of Bishop Kucera Assembly and a member of the American Legion Post #3.

As an AARP tax volunteer, Jim did income tax filing every year since 1990. On June 11, 1960, he married Alice Knepper at Sacred Heart Church in Beaver Crossing. James was a member of St. Joseph’s parish and in other parishes he had served as lector, collection counter, usher and DDP chairman. A big fan of football, they held season football tickets since 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; daughter, Janet (Doug) Stokebrand; sons, Alan (Sunney); Mark (Amy); John (Tamra); and David; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, John, of Littleton, Colorado; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brother, Robert; two sisters-in-law; and a brother-in law. 

Viewing will start at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, with a Rosary service starting at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., all at St Joseph Catholic Church in Lincoln. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery at Beaver Crossing. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Elementary School or Sacred Heart Church.
