Geraldine May Haase was born May 19, 1936, in Garland, to William and Luella (Herring) Schaefer and passed away Sept. 10, 2023, in Seward, at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 22 days.

Geraldine was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on June 7, 1936, and later confirmed on April 2, 1950. She attended Garland schools. Geraldine worked at the Egg Plant in Seward for several years, then Seward Memorial Hospital in housekeeping and later at Seward City Cleaners. She was then employed at Hughes Brothers, Inc., for 30+ plus years before retiring. On June 21, 1958, Geraldine was united in marriage to Charles Haase at Zion Lutheran Church in Garland. They had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Geraldine enjoyed gardening, canning and embroidering. She loved spending time with her grandchildren/great-grandchildren and spent numerous hours baking with them. Geraldine was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Luella Schaefer; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Herb Folkerts; brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Leona Haase; brother-in-law, Ervin Haase; sister-in-law, Viola Rueth; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cliff and Judy Haase.

Survivors cherishing her memory include her husband, Charles Haase of Seward; five children, Gary Schaefer and wife, Julie of Seward, Diane Forst and husband, Randy, of Lincoln, Elaine Richters and husband, Terry of Seward, Lorraine Leininger and husband, Mike of Seward, and Chuck Haase and wife, Melissa of Seward; 12 grandchildren: Troy Schaefer, Travis Schaefer, Matt Schaefer, Jason Schaefer, Tonya Forst, Jared Forst, Renee Jurgensmeier, Tyler Richters, Derek Leininger, Kelsi Leininger, Kolby Haase and Dalton Haase; 16 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Wren and husband, Don of Seward; three sisters-in-law, Hanziena Svoboda of Surprise, Elly Polivka of Arizona and Anna Dasher of Nebraska City; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 1 – 8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward with family receiving friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Garland with interment at the church cemetery.
