Frances (Fran) Kay Rediger

Frances (Fran) Kay Rediger was born Feb. 28, 1938, in Utica to Keith and Ruth Markle, and was called suddenly home to the Lord on Feb. 6, 2015. 

She was married to Harry Rediger June 8, 1958, and her outgoing personality, captivating smile and amazing spirit touched the lives of many.

Fran spent her life teaching others, beginning her career as an elementary school teacher and retired from the Cape Girardeau Public Schools, where she was a teaching assistant for 12 years.

Fran dedicated her life in service to her church and community. She was a 40-year member of United Methodist Women at Centenary United Methodist Church, was a member of the Clipper Sunday School class, the Mission Committee, served as Communion Steward and was active in numerous other church organizations.

Fran served in an advisory role to Southeast’s College of Education and as a member of the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation Board of Directors. She was active with the University’s annual Walk for Women’s

Athletics, the Southeast Booster Club and the University Foundation’s Power of Women Luncheon Committee.

Fran was a past president of the St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary and has been a Saint Francis Medical Center volunteer for 22 years. She has been active with the United Way’s Graces and Read to Succeed programs. She was a past president of the Chateau Girardeau Foundation Board, the Chateau Girardeau Board of Directors and the Community Counseling Center Governing Board. Other affiliations include member of Rose Hill’s Garden Club and a long-time member of PEO Chapter JN.

Loving survivors include her husband of 56 years, Harry Rediger; four children: Cindy (Randy) Propst, Kathy (Bill) Sedlacek, Dr. Doug Rediger, Michelle (Mark) Burris; seven grandchildren: Amber (Joey) Beard, Katie (Eric) Kuntz, Kelly (Brian) Skubic, Tyler Propst, Trevor Propst, Cameron Burris, Alyssa Burris; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers; Dennis Markle and Dick (Ruth) Markle; and nephews and nieces.

A viewing was held Feb. 12 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Funeral services were held Feb.13, also at Centenary United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Conley officiating. Entombment followed at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
