Florence grew up in the Brainard area and attended school in Dwight, graduating with the Class of 1948. Shortly after graduation, she was united in marriage to John Bartunek on Nov. 15, 1948, in Dwight. To this union, six children were born: Carmie, Roger, Becky, John, Sandy, and Chris. Flo worked on the family farm and was a wonderful stay-at-home mom. When the family moved to Hastings in 1968, she had an in-home daycare for several kids over the years. A few years after John’s passing in 1980, Flo reconnected with Gilbert Kobza after a class reunion. The couple was then married on Aug. 24, 1985, in Seward at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Flo had a love for baking. She enjoyed dancing and they attended many dances together and were quite fond of polka music. Flo also loved to travel with Gilbert. Some of their favorite places to travel included the Holyland, Switzerland and London. They were also snowbirds for 18 years in Texas. Flo never knew a stranger and loved making connections with people. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to many.
