Eagles take down Whippets on gridiron

Minden might have scored first, but Milford scored more, beating the Whippets 35-12 in the battle of purple M’s Oct. 3.

Minden struck first on a 35-yard run with 9:22 to play but failed on its conversion.

The Eagles responded witha  30-yard pass from Landon Roth to Zeb Reil with 3:07 to play in the first. Jay Wissenburg connected on the point after for a 7-6 lead, and the Eagles didn’t look back.

Milford extended the lead with 10:55 to play in the second quarter on an 8-yard pass from Roth to Isaac Roth. With 5:24 to play, Landon Roth found Isaac Roth again for a 28-yard TD.

With just 14 seconds remaining in the half, Landon Roth completed a drive with a one-yard run and a 28-6 halftime lead.

Milford scored again early in the third quarter. Zane Wittstruck carried the final eight yards for six points, and Wissenburg’s kick made the margin 35-6.

Minden scored with 11 seconds to play in the third on a one-yard pass.

Landon Roth finished the game with 231 passing yards, completing 18 of 30 attempts. Isaac Roth had six catches for 109 yards, and Reil caught seven for 100 yards. Wittstruck carried 26 times for 85 yards.

Kaleb Meierdierks finished with six solo tackles and one assist. Isaac Roth had five solo stops and two assists. He and Cole Brown each recovered a fumble, as well.

The Eagles (5-1) will be at Central City (6-0) for a game Friday, Oct. 10. Central City defeated Lincoln Christian 35-8 Oct. 3.
