Darleen E. Shook was born on Jan. 8, 1939, on a farm in
Seward County to Orville and Clara (Klepper) Radford, the
eighth of 12 children, and passed away Sunday,
May 10, 2015, at Ridgewood Care Center
at the age of 76 years, four months and two
days.
Darleen was baptized and confirmed at
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Seward. As a
young girl, she attended country school and
later Seward Public Schools. Darleen was
united in marriage to Clair ‘Fred” A. Shook
on Oct. 28, 1961, in Seward and to this union, a daughter,
Deborah, and a son, Craig, were born.
Darleen loved sewing and needle work and solving
crossword puzzles. She was dedicated to her family and
loved spending time with her grandchildren. Darleen was a
member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Milford. In
2013, she moved to the Greene House in Seward and more
recently moved to Ridgewood Care Center.
Darleen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law,
Deborah and Shane Yoder, Strasburg, Colorado; son, Craig
Shook, daughter-in-law, Shana Shook, both of Milford;
grandchildren Ashley, Austin, Ayden and Alec, all of Milford,
and Shelby Yoder, Strasburg, Colorado; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Charles and Vera Radford, and Harold and
Lola Radford, all of Seward; Weldon and Trudy Radford,
Burlington, Colorado; and LeRoy and Pam Radford, Garland;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene Houdersheldt, York;
Verna and Glen Neujahr, Utica; Elaine and Dale Anderson,
Milford; and Evelyn and Bill Reynolds, Quitman, Arizona;
brother-in-law, Marty Jacobs, David City; sisters-in-law,
Marion Radford, Lincoln; and Donna Radford, Seward;
many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Clair “Fred” in 2002, brothers Leland and Clifford Radford;
sister, Viola Jacobs; and brother-in-law Homer Houdersheldt.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14,
2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Milford with
Rev. Randy Wahl officiating. Interment was in Blue Mound
Cemetery, Milford. Pallbearers were Austin Shook, Kevin
Neujahr, Brian and Bruce Anderson, Kim Hovendick and
Jeff Radford. Memorials have been directed in care of the
