At its March 21 meeting, the Seward City Council:
• approved an agreement with The Schemmer Associates for design and engineering services related to a water main replacement project on Sixth Street (Highway 15) from Ash Street to Lincoln Street with an estimated design cost of $221,901.70 and replacement cost of around $1.4 million. The project will be done in conjunction with the upcoming highway reconstruction project.
• held a public hearing and approved a special use permit for resident Stacey Piskorski to operate an in-home preschool at her residence. Piskorski will be required to meet all state requirements in order to operate the business for more than six children.
• approved a request from the Seward Arts Council for sale and consumption of alcohol at the Seward Bandshell for a Second Saturday Art Connections series this summer.
• annexed part of a single lot in Prairie View Addition and a portion of Sunflower Avenue into the city limits for construction of the subdivision to continue as planned.
• amended the city code to increase the distance trees may be planted from the curb to 30 feet.
• heard a presentation about adding unique signs to the downtown historic district. Read more in a future edition.
• approved a Class D retail liquor license for Seward Walmart manager Elizabeth Scherbarth.
