Centennial beats Centura on road

After 14 days without a game, the Centennial boys’ basketball team was back in action Jan. 20 against Centura. The Broncos defeated the Centurions 59-36.

“It felt good,” Coach Cam Scholl said. “The kids were itching to get going.”

He wasn’t sure what to expect, after a two-week hiatus. The Bronco defense gave up 14 first-quarter points, above their single-digit goal. But Centennial was able to right the ship and led by 10 at halftime.

Scholl was pleased to see the team get the ball into the paint and get to the free throw line. Centennial was 9-12 at the line and 19-32 from two.

Four Broncos reached double figures, led by Devin Slawnyk’s 17 points. Alex Hirschfeld scored 14, Ryan Richters 12 and Camden Winkelman 10.

“I was pleased with how we did,” Scholl said.

Centennial (9-3) has a full week because of rescheduling due to weather. The Broncos are at Fillmore Central Jan. 23, host Thayer Central Friday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. and host Doniphan-Trumbull Saturday, Jan. 27, at 12:30 p.m.
