Centennial softball went 1-1 in its opening weekend tournament Aug. 23, beating Fillmore Central 12-2 and losing to Bishop Neumann 8-3.
The Broncos scored six in the second and four in the fourth to beat FCHS via the run rule. Madisyn Shufeldt doubled and drove in three, and Anna Warm tripled and stole three bases. Kobie Kosek also had three RBIs, and Dakota Boyer drove in two.
CHS finished with seven hits against the Cavaliers, with Paityn Scheele hitting a two-run home run in the fifth as part of a 2-2 game, and Boyer going 2-3.
Centennial hosted North Bend Central and Fairbury Aug. 25 at Beaver Crossing and fell short in both games. NBC won 10-0, and Fairbury scored five in the bottom of the sixth to win 9-8.
Sarah Payne hit a double for CHS against North Bend. Scheele, Warm, Boyer and Ashton Wolf had two hits each for the Broncos against Fairbury. Warm and Scheele also stole three bases each.
The Broncos were scheduled to travel to Columbus Lakeview Thursday, Aug. 28. CHS is part of the field at the Seward Invitational Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Plum Creek Park fourplex in Seward. Games start at 9:30 a.m.
The team visits Aurora Tuesday, Sept. 2 and hosts Syracuse Thursday, Sept. 4, in Utica.
