The Centennial girls were second and the boys were third at their home invitational April 16, finishing behind Malcolm in both cases.

Brooklyn Gierhan helped lead the CHS girls’ team, winning gold in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.48.

“Brooklyn keeps getting stronger in the 300 hurdles and knocking off time. It seems to be her race this year and she looks determined to win each time out,” Coach Rob Johansen said.

Quinn Butzke improved his season-best distance in the shot put with a throw of 46-8 to win the event.

“We have been waiting for him to make some bigger throws this season, and it looks like he has solved his issue with staying on the ring,” Johansen said.

Cooper Gierhan cleared 13-0 to finish second in the pole vault.

“Things are starting to click with him as he is getting into the groove of vaulting again,” Johansen said.

Will Saunders also set a personal best mark in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing second in 16.34 seconds.

Johansen said the Broncos still have work to do before the Southern Nebraska Conference meet Saturday, April 27, at Milford. Events start at 10 a.m.

“I still feel that we are behind were I would expect them to be at this time of year but we made some strides forward today,” the coach said.
