Maxine June (Heers) Plisek was born July 27, 1927, to Edward August and Mabel Esedora (Westergreen) Heers on the family farm north of Utica. She graduated from Utica High School in 1945. On Nov. 27, 1946, Maxine was united in marriage to Edmund Daniel Plisek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Beaver Crossing. From this union came two sons, Carroll and Daniel. Following Edmund’s death, Maxine moved in to her grandson’s home in Norfolk for several years. Maxine baked pies and cakes for Dale’s Restaurant in Seward in the early 1960s. In 1962, she began working in food service for the Seward School District and eventually became the school district’s food manager. She held this position for 25 years, retiring in the mid 1990s.

Maxine loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed attending family gatherings. She delighted many with her cooking and baking, especially caramel rolls and kolaches. She and Ed enjoyed dancing and taking annual trips to attend Ed’s World War II Navy Sea Bee reunions.
