Four killed in Cordova house fire March 16

Four fatalities have been confirmed in a house fire in Cordova March 16, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

At approximately 7:18 a.m., the Cordova Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 250 Helen Street.

Responders arrived at 7:23 a.m. to find smoke and flames coming out the front door and a window at the southwest corner of the house.

Six people were in the structure at the time of the fire. Two individuals were able to self-evacuate with no reported injuries.

State Fire Marshal investigators have recovered the remains of the four remaining individuals.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Foul play is not suspected.

The Seward County Attorney has ordered an autopsy for each of the deceased.

Responding agencies include fire and rescue crews from Cordova, Beaver Crossing, Friend, Utica and Exeter. The Seward County Sheriff’s Office and Seward County Attorney are assisting the fire marshal’s office in the investigation.
