During the Seward County Commissioners’ Aug. 28 meeting, the board:

• set tax requests for the county’s miscellaneous districts. The Agricultural Society will receive $367,000. The Fire District will receive $745,000. The Pleasant Dale Cemetery and the J Precinct Cemetery will receive $1,600 and $1,300, respectively.

• appointed Jim Luebbe to the Board of Adjustment.

• authorized the chairperson to sign the sheriff’s drug fund equitable agreement and certification.

Sheriff Joe Yocum said the county must submit this document for the federal Equitable Sharing Program. Through this program, the county receives funds from the federal government after it makes drug busts. Those funds may be used for equipment and training expenses.

• approved a proposal not to exceed $13,700 from Stephen and Smith Construction Co. to modify curbs on the north side of the Seward County Justice Center parking lot. Janssen said drivers are often hitting the curbs.

This work includes shortening the north curb along the lot’s entry and shortening the tail end of the island on the north side of the parking lot. The board also said “compact cars only” signs can be added to alleviate other parking problems.

• authorized the road department to sell a track hoe.
