During its April 30 meeting, the Seward County Board of Commissioners:
• heard from County Road Superintendent Casey Keim, who said there were 28 roads still closed from flooding and he was continuing to work with federal and state emergency management agencies.
• approved resolution 3443 for the road department to renew a lease for a Caterpillar mini excavator. The annual cost of the lease is $5,500.
• heard from Human Resources Director Brea Ehman about the status of the salary study. Ehman said the department was working through wage analysis meetings to talk to all departments.
Ehman said the department needs to review and compile the information to give other departments accurate data to use for salary tables.
• approved resolutions to allow the formation of three short form plats.
Resolution 3444 relates to a subdivision requested by James Luebbe, whose property is located about four miles northeast of Beaver Crossing.
Zoning Administrator Becky Paulsen said the request was made so Luebbe can add a parcel from the farm ground to the home area because the parcel is wetland and not farmable.
Resolution 3445 relates to an addition request made by Douglas and Sharon Dickinson to add land from pivot points in order to develop family homes on the land. The addition is located three miles west of Seward.
Resolution 3446 relates to a request by Kim and Brenda Meinberg and is located three miles north east of Goehner.
• authorized Board Chairman John Culver to sign an Equal Employment Opportunity Plan certification in order for the county to show compliance within the requirements of the Justice Assistance Grant for the 2018-2019 year.
The JAG grant aids community law enforcement agencies’ efforts to reduce and prevent crime.
• approved the Seward County Extension Office’s request to use up to $20,000 of its budget funds to remodel its office kitchenette into an accessible teaching kitchen.
Extension Educator Ann Dobesh said the Extension office had a teaching kitchen in its original building and would like to have one again in its present building.
Dobesh said she had received several quotes and will continue to seek estimates for the work needed to build the teaching kitchen.
• heard from Building and Grounds Superintendent Mike Janssen about the state of exterior stairs on the north side of the Justice Center.
Janssen said the stairs were breaking again after being repaired last summer. He said he has received bids to repair the stairs but will continue to seek out other bids and report back to the commissioners in a couple of weeks.
• granted 13 special liquor permits to Junto Wine, which extend from May until the end of July on select dates.
