Breaking News

• According to the Seward Police Department, shortly after 6 p.m. April 19, Seward Police officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit ending approximately 2 miles east of Seward on Highway 34. Mechanical tire deflators were successfully used to bring the fleeing vehicle to a stop safely. The driver then ran on foot and soon after was apprehended without further incident. Two other passengers were detained for questioning. Also involved were officers from the Nebraska State Patrol and the Seward Sheriff's Office.

• Rescue crews responded to a multiple vehicle accident on Interstate 80 near the Milford interchange just after 5 p.m. yesterday. Eastbound I-80 was closed while crews responded. More information will be in next week's SCI.

• Crews also responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Ash and Sixth streets in Seward last night just after 6:30 p.m.

Have breakfast, check blood pressure: The Seward Senior Center will serve breakfast today at 9:30 a.m., with bingo also planned. Those who come at 9 a.m. can have their blood pressure checked, as well.

Coming Up

Celebrate Poetry. Celebrate Nebraska: Seward Memorial Library will host a poetry contest celebrating Seward’s 150th birthday as well as Seward County’s and Nebraska’s sesquicentennial. Library patrons of all ages are invited to write original poems. Poems must be 150 words (not including the title) and be related to Seward or Nebraska. The poetry can be in any form and preferably submitted online at sewardlibrary.org. The entry deadline is Friday, April 21, at noon.

Fridays For You looks at therapy: The Fridays For You program at noon Friday, April 21, will be “Therapy Services: Understanding types of therapy, when they are needed and how they improve quality of life” with Pete Christensen, director of therapy services. The program will be in the lower level Vahle Conference Room at the Seward Family Medical Center.

Night at Museum celebrates Guard contributions: The Nebraska National Guard Museum will host its annual Night at the Museum Friday, April 21, from 5-9 p.m. Major Gen. Daryl Bohac, adjutant general, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20. RSVP to dnore1@windstream.net or (402) 499-3940.
