CM baseball falls in district semifinal

The Crete-Milford baseball team had the tying run on second but couldn’t drive him home in the district semifinal against Beatrice May 2.

Beatrice held off CM 3-2 to end the Cardinals’ season. Crete-Milford finished with a record of 8-17.

Beatrice scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. In the top of the seventh, Alex Eltze led off with a single and advanced to third in a single by Carson Kotil. Kotil stole second, and Eltze scored to cut the lead to 3-2.

With Kotil on second, the Beatrice pitcher struck out the next two CM batters to end the game.

Crete-Milford outhit Beatrice 6-4, with Eltze going 2-3.

Everett Heath pitched 5.2 innings and struck out five. Jeffrey Kuncl got the final out for Crete-Milford.

The Cardinals finished the regular season April 29 with a 6-4 loss to Hastings. The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning, and CM couldn’t dig completely out of the hole.

Jaime Ramos was 2-3 and scored two runs for CM. Brooks Piening hit a double and stole a base.

CM had seven pitchers take the mound in the game. They combined for seven strikeouts.

Crete-Milford will graduate seven seniors – Jaime Ramos, Mason Stone, Garrett Rockenbach, Jeffrey Kuncl, Kenner Svitak, Carter Tews and Cale Burkhardt.
