Ethel Yeackley

Dec. 8, 1928 - June 14, 2014

Ethel Yeackley was born Dec. 8, 1928, at Lancaster, Pa., to Paul and Cora (Smoker) Stoltzfus, one of eight children, and passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Southlake Village in Lincoln at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 6 days.

Ethel accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of 12 and was baptized in the Maple Grove Church in Atglen, Pa., and remained faithful and trusted in His faithfulness to her. She moved to Nebraska in 1946 and on May 10, 1947, she was united in marriage to Willis D. Yeackley of Milford. Two children, Brenda Lee and George Willis, were born to this union.

After Willis passed away, she was employed by the Nebraska Department of Social Services for more than 20 years.

She and Willis were charter members of Bellwood Mennonite Church, later transferring to the Milford Assembly of God Church. As a young mother and active member she served her Lord in many ways, including teaching Sunday School, Bible School and leading several Bible studies in her home. She enjoyed quiet music and reading until her vision became impaired. Unable to participate in many creative activities she once enjoyed, her courage remained steadfast and helping others was always foremost on her mind. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. The songs “Gentle Shepherd Come and Lead Us,” “The Lord Liveth” and “We Shall Behold Him” ministered to her.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her children and spouse, George and Denise Yeackley, Pleasant Dale, and Brenda Yost, Elkhorn; five grandchildren and spouses, Matthew and Alicia Yost and children Mallory and Lydia, Omaha, Marc Yost, Apopka, Fla., Scott and Lisa Yost and children, Jack and William, Cave Creek, Ariz., Stephanie and Tim Haynes, Gretna, and Ryan and Christa Yeackley and children, Logan and Kody, Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Stutzman, Naomi Yeackley and Donna (Cook) Pearson, all of Milford; Helen Stoltzfus, Gap, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Cora Stoltzfus, her husband, Willis, sister, Arlene Troyer, six brothers, Melvin, Norman, Earl, Paul, Ira and Bill Stoltzfus.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Assembly of God Church in Milford with the Revs. Lamoin Lytle and Tony Houk officiating.
