Yvonne Charlene Austin was born Jan. 1, 1949, to John Henry and Aletha Bessie (McConnell) McBride in Ainsworth. She graduated from McCook High School in 1967. She then attended Kearney State College in Kearney, earning her bachelor’s degree in biology in 1971 and then her master’s degree in biology in 1987.

Yvonne worked as a program specialist for the State of Nebraska in the Department of Environmental Quality for 22 years, retiring in 2014. She was a board member for the Upper Big Blue Natural Resource District for 25 years. In her free time, Yvonne enjoyed puzzles, being in the Staplehurst Women’s Club and family.

Yvonne passed away Dec. 7, 2016, in Lincoln at age 67.

She is survived by her son, William (Amanda) Austin-Mafilika of Lincoln; daughters, Diana Wulf of Staplehurst, Debra Austin of Alexandria, Virginia, Kari Austin of Lincoln and Cloe Austin of Staplehurst; brothers, Dale (Denise) McBride of Layton, Utah, and Gary McBride of Exeter; stepmother, Elva McBride of Exeter; grandchildren, Kevin Austin, Cody Cudmore, Liam Austin-Mafilika and Nolan Austin-Mafilika.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Aletha McBride; husband, Tim Austin; and sister, Mina Ree McBride.
