Edna Lorena Flowerday was born July 19, 1919, to Henry and Marie (Wiemken) Bolte, in Saskatchewan, Canada. She attended school at Beaver Crossing District 38 and Valley High from 1925 to 1936. On Nov. 25, 1937, Edna was united in marriage to Clarence Burhoop in York. Following Clarence’s death, Edna married Herman Schmidt. Upon Herman’s death, Edna married William Flowerday.

Edna was a devoted mother and homemaker. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed cooking and baking and she loved to dance. She worked at York General Hospital, Bethesda Care Center in Seward and York Laundry Center for 21 years. Edna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica.

Edna passed away Jan. 19, 2017, in York at the age of 97 years and 6 months.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette (LaVerne) Neumann of Loveland, Colorado, and Carlyn (Larry) Ballard of Detroit, Michigan; son-in-law, Ron Hoferer of Niobrara; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-great-grandchildren.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marie Bolte; husbands, Clarence Burhoop, Herman Schmidt and William Flowerday; daughter, Phyllis Hoferer; and daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Larry Hoffman.

A funeral service was held Jan. 23, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica, with the Rev. Richard Gudgel and the Rev. Jon Dunbar officiating. Interment was in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Waco. Casketbearers were her grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Flowerday family for future designation.
