The first two rounds of Class D wrestling are in the books at the state wrestling tournament.

Edwen Baptista of Friend will bring home a medal after winning his first two matches today. At 182 pounds, the FHS senior pinned Brandon Beeson of Tri County in 3:58 and scored a 17-6 win over Brock Schaecher of Elkhorn Valley. Baptista will wrestle Dylan Horejsi of Howells-Dodge in the championship semifinals Friday night.

Tri County’s wrestlers had a tough morning. Brandon Siebolt won his first match at 195 pounds, pinning CJ Pickrel of Fullerton in 1:32. He lost his second match 13-4 to Collin Gale of Plainview.

Cole Reedy lost his opener to Joel Priest of Hitchcock County 14-8. Reedy will wrestle Gavin Lampman of Wisner-Pilger in the first round of the 126-pound consolation matches Friday morning.

Caden Reedy drew defending champion Tyler Pawloski of Pleasant in his first round match and lost by pin in 32 seconds. Reedy will wrestle Seth Hare of Hitchcock County in the 132-pound consolations tomorrow morning.

Beeson was pinned by Baptista and will wrestle Justin Schroll of North Platte St. Patrick’s in the wrestlebacks.

Brevin Damrow came up short against Clay Thiele of Clearwater Orchard at 195 pounds, losing by pin in 2:59. He will wrestle Drew Bogard of Amherst, with the winner to wrestle Siebolt.

Benton Gustafson lost his 285-pound opener 3-1 to Chris Sciortino of Garden County. He will wrestle Tommie Peed of Clearwater Orchard in the wrestlebacks.

Matches start tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
