As the new Civic Center manager, Erin Wiseman is ready to get involved with the Seward community.

Wiseman, who has lived in Seward for a year and a half, previously worked as the manager of the Holthus Convention Center in York. She pursued the Seward Civic Center position with the hopes she could live and work in the same community.

“I would love to be a part of the community I live in and get involved,” she said. “It's difficult to live in one and work in the other.”

She got her wish as the Civic Center manager and has already enjoyed the opportunity to see how the various groups and events that call the Civic Center home operate.

“That makes you feel part of the community and included and you know how you can help,” she said.

As manager, she will be in charge of scheduling meetings and events at the Civic Center, establish schedules for part-time employees, set up and organize rooms when needed, clean, perform light maintenance and contract larger landscaping projects if needed.

Her first full-time day was June 7 and since then, she's worked to establish her routine while learning the duties required of the position.

“You have to come in and figure out what works best for you,” she said. “It's definitely a transition but it's been a lot of fun.”

Wiseman said she's excited to be able to play a major role in the various events that come through the Civic Center, especially the Fourth of July. Wiseman attended school at St. John Lutheran School and Seward High School before moving away with her family and fondly recalls her childhood experiences with the Fourth.

“When I was younger, I always wanted to be a part of the Fourth, so that's really exciting,” she said. “To be able to be a part of that...the planning and execution, at least a small part of that, is exciting.”
