Verna K. “Kathy” Tomasek

Verna K. “Kathy” Tomasek was born Nov. 29, 1942, to Arnold and Leta (Hampson) Stapp in Cozad. Kathy passed away Sept. 23, 2021, in Lincoln.

She graduated from Cozad High School in 1961. Kathy married Charles Marshall on Nov. 14, 1962. They were blessed to have two children, Mitch and Kendra. Kathy worked as a secretary in the Cozad area in a variety of capacities, including at Monroe Auto and in the home health department at Cozad Community Hospital. Kathy later moved to Omaha and worked in the Physical Therapy Education department at UNMC while enjoying life with her sister, Kay. After Kay’s passing, she landed back in Cozad and began working at Boerkirchers Furniture. She was united in marriage to Jerry Tomasek in April 2002. They split time between Cozad and Green Valley, Arizona, but eventually moved to Green Valley year-round. After Jerry’s passing in 2017, Kathy moved back to Nebraska to be closer to family. She enjoyed socializing with friends, cards and board games, golf, Husker athletics, the Arizona Diamondbacks and keeping tabs on the comings and goings of her family. She was blessed to have many friends and many fond memories of times spent with those close to her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; and siblings, Keith, Kay and Jerry. She is survived by her son, Mitch (Dorothy) Marshall of Seward; daughter, Kendra (Preston) Speece of LaVista; grandchildren, Evan, Jacob, Haley and Andrew Marshall and Jackson and Elly Speece; and many friends and relatives.  

No funeral service will be held per Kathy’s request. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
