The 2022 state track meet is in the books, and the Seward track and field team added three medals to its count.

“It was a good experience for everyone,” Coach Jeff Hass said.

Kalen Knott was the top finisher for the Jays, earning third in the pole vault with a height of 14-0.

“He was disappointed not to get 14-6,” Hass said. “He vaulted really well. “Third place is nothing to be ashamed of.”

Freshman Kelsey Miller capped her first state meet with a sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-3.

“It was a good way to end the year,” Hass said.

Miller also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and ran anchor on the 4x400-meter relay.

Fellow freshman Tessa Greisen brought home a seventh-place medal in the 3,200-meter run, completing the race in 12:06.12.

Senior Gavin Sukup finished his first year of track with a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles of 41.82 seconds after struggling in the 110-meter hurdles where he finished in 16.93 seconds.

“To end the season like that is pretty good,” Hass said.

Seniors Maddie Viger, Desirae Hibbert, Morgan Craig, Keegan Beisel, Nathan Nottingham, Michael Peery and Nathan Hochstein also finished their careers at the state track meet but did not medal.

Hass said Viger threw about as usual, while Hibbert didn’t have as good a day.

Caden Brooks jumped well in the long jump, and Hass was happy to see him have a good experience as a sophomore.

Coral Collins and Eden Schulz both competed in the 100-meter dash and did a good job.

“It’s good to end the way they did,” Hass said.

Seniors Nottingham and Peery didn’t see the times they wanted in their distance races, but Hass said both had good careers.

“Nathan did exceptionally all year. He’s been a good leaders and a good teammate,” Hass said.

He said all three relay teams ran well.

Additional results were:

100-meter dash—Eden Schulz 12.92, Coral Collins 13.24

Overall, Hass said, he was pleased to see the underclassmen get state meet experience.

“It was a fun year. They all improved so much,” he said.
