Two battle for places at Crete golf invitational

Centennial’s Sam Ehlers and Alex Hirschfeld had a tough day April 27 at the Crete Invitational.

“I don’t think they felt they played as well as they hoped,” Coach Cam Scholl said. “They battled, especially on the back nine.”

Hirschfeld was able to finish in the top 10, shooting an 85 for ninth against a field filled with Class B schools.

“To get top 10 without playing your best – that’s pretty good for him,” Scholl said.

Ehlers didn’t have his best rounds of the season, shooting a 46-49 and finishing back in the standings.

Scholl said College Heights Country Club is a tougher course, but playing a tough course helps prepare the golfers for the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament Thursday, May 4, at the Superior Country Club.

The Broncos were at Superior for the first meet of the season, so the course won’t be unfamiliar. Scholl said it’s an open layout, but golfers still need to avoid trouble.

“We want to play our best at conference and districts,” he said.

The CHS junior varsity golfers had a meet at Henderson May 1, and CHS will host Seward Thursday, May 11, for the Bronco/Bluejay Cup.
