Commissioners table discussion of poultry conditional permit

The Seward County Commissioners on Sept. 24 were to review a clarification of the conditional use permit it earlier granted Pine Creek Poultry, LLC, but a question from Seward County Attorney Wendy Elston led to a half hour executive session and the item being tabled.

TODAY - Free movie at SML

The Seward Memorial Library will host a free movie Thursday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. featuring a 2025 American horror film. Feel free to bring snacks and a drink. Visit sewardlibrary.org for more information.

FRIDAY - RSVP deadline

Medicare Updates and Open Enrollment, with Medicare Specialist Eric Hansen, regional volunteer coordinator with Nebraska SHIP, will be at noon Friday, Oct. 10, in the third level meeting room at Memorial Hospital. TOMORROW - Retirement party

A retirement party for Seward County Clerk Sherry Schweitzer will be Friday, Oct. 3, from 1 – 5 p.m. at the Seward County Courthouse in the third floor law library. The public is invited.

THROUGH MONDAY - Clothing collection

Coats, hats, scarves, gloves, jeans, sweatshirts, warm clothing, hygiene items – tampons, deodorant, shampoo, etc. – and non-perishable snacks are being collected through Oct. 6 for Project Connect Lincoln that will be Oct. 8 in Lincoln for people who are homeless or near homeless. Concordia University students will volunteer and give out the items collected. There will be boxes to drop items off at the Seward Memorial Library and at the entrance of Weller Hall at Concordia. Rosary for Joie Cihal will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, with the Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:30 a.m., both at Assumption Catholic Church in Bee. Graveside service and interment will be at Assumption Catholic Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.

Softball schedules

The Central Conference softball tournament is today in York. Seward will play Lakeview at 10 a.m., with game two at 11:30 a.m. and the final games scheduled for 1 p.m. Grand Island Northwest is the top seed in the eight-team tournament.

Subdistrict pairings and sites were announced by the NSAA yesterday. Tournaments are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6. Milford (11-13) will play Wilber-Clatonia (14-11) at 2 p.m. in Hastings. The final in the C1 tournament is at 4 p.m. Centennial (10-16) will play GACC (16-12) at 3 p.m. in Auburn. The final in the C9 tournament is at 5 p.m. Malcolm (13-12) will host Syracuse (6-20) at 2 p.m. The final in the C10 tournament at Malcolm is at 6 p.m.
