DARI Processing broke ground for a new building on the Seward Rail Campus June 18. Pictured are, from left, Jonathan Jank of the SCCDP, Seward Mayor Josh Eickmeier, TJ, Zane and Todd Tuls of DARI Processing and Gov. Jim Pillen. "DARI Processing’s facility in Seward will process raw milk at ultra-high temperatures (UHT Pasteurization) to eliminate bacteria. Then, milk products will be packaged immediately in airtight bottles/containers within a sterile environment. This process, known as aseptic production, results in fresh milk and cream that can go up to 12 months without refrigeration," according to a news release from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

Man sentenced for hostage situation, police chase

A man convicted of holding a woman hostage in Seward County last fall was sentenced to six months in jail on Monday.
Trenton Engel, 34, pled no contest to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a peace officer in April.
In exchange, prosecutors dropped one felony count of first-degree false imprisonment and another felony count of possession of a firearm while committing a felony.
Deputies responded to a reported hostage situation at a home in Pleasant Dale on Sept. 23, 2024. They secured the release of a woman, who was unharmed. Engel remained inside, armed.
After failed negotiations, a Nebraska State Patrol SWAT team took him into custody without incident. A search of the home uncovered multiple firearms and ammunition.
Engel is currently in custody at the Lincoln Reception and Treatment Center for crimes committed during a dangerous pursuit in Waverly in October.
Engel took a plea deal in April and was found guilty of six felony charges in Lancaster County. He was given four years of post-release supervision and credit for 245 days served.
He will need to go to Seward County Jail once he completes his prison sentence.
