SMS holds in-person Veterans Day Program

Seward Middle School was still able to host its annual Veterans Day Program on Nov. 11 through a pandemic and all the directed health measures it brought.

A few dozen veterans came to the program in person. The program was also streamed online for those who could not attend.

The program featured a slideshow on two projector screens that honored individual veterans and listed their affiliation to the school's students and staff. The Seward Middle School chorus and eighth grade band both performed, as did KiTones representative Jonathan Jank, to honor those who served.

Some members of the chorus made short speeches between songs. After their final song, six chorus members talked about having parents who served. Most of those parents were in attendance.

Seward Middle School Principal Kirk Gottschalk, a veteran himself, spoke briefly to recognize America's veterans and give some final words before members of the Seward American Legion and VFW came to retire the colors.
