A 74-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle near Sixth and Seward Streets on June 7.

Seward Police Chief Brian Peters said Sofia Medrano was transported to Memorial Hospital and life-flighted to Bryan West in Lincoln where she died of her injuries.

A memorial service for Medrano was held on June 14 at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home.

Medrano was born in Torreón, Mexico and was raised in Tijuana where she worked in a factory until her retirement.

Medrano, who was known as a selfless person, leaves behind four children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Peters said the driver, Joyce Meyer, 93, was traveling west on Seward Street and turned southbound on Sixth Street when she hit Medrano with her blue 2002 Buick LeSabre.

According to Peters, Meyers did not suffer any injuries.

Nebraska State Patrol is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
