The Seward boys’ basketball team picked up a 60-31 win at Grand Island Central Catholic Dec. 22, entering the Christmas break with a 3-4 record.

“Ultimately we put a full effort together,” Coach Trevor Menke said. “We practiced really well. And when you practice well, you play well.”

Kameron Dyer led the team with 16 points, and Tresten Hass scored 15 including three 3-pointers in the first half. Hank Hughes put up 12 points.

Menke said defensive was a whole team effort. The Jays were able to disrupt the GICC offense and rebound well.

The Bluejays are next in action at a holiday tournament in Wahoo Thursday, Dec. 28. SHS will play Bishop Neumann in the opening game at 4:15 p.m. Wahoo and Mount Michael Benedictine are the other side of the tournament.

“Neumann is big, strong, athletic,” Menke said. “They are a whole other challenge.”

He said the team always prepares for unnamed opponents and to “be us as best we can.”
