Rain and wind were the order of the day April 8 at the Norris Invitational, but the golfers found a way to compete.
Ty Wehrs of Seward shot a 40-36 at Pioneers Golf Course to place third. The winner shot a 72.
“Ty really went above and beyond,” Coach Jim Placke said of the SHS senior.
Ander Axthelm shot a 41-47 88, Dane Conner a 49-44 93, Jordan Briggs a 48-45 93 and Ashton Koetter a 49-48 97.
Placke said the newer golfers will learn from the experience, especially in areas you wouldn’t think of, like keeping an extra golf in a plastic bag to stay dry.
“I thought we handled ourselves well,” he said. “For a couple, it was the first time on a new course.”
Where Pioneers plays like the Seward golf course, the Jays will play a different course this week when they go to York Thursday, April 15.
Placke said the team will focus on developing individual practice plans for each golfer.
“It’ll suit what they want to do,” he said. “They’ll learn how to practice and make themselves better.”
