Ship back on course for Malcolm softball

Posted

The ship is back on the right course. A week after going 1-5 and wondering what direction it was headed, the Malcolm softball team got back on track as it flipped the script and went 5-1 last week.
The No. 9 Clippers’ bats finally started heating up as Malcolm’s sluggers hit six home runs and 12 doubles in a six-game stretch.
Alanea Babb had a three-run blast against Fillmore Central-Exeter-Milligan-Friend at the Sept. 3 Fairbury Invitational. The senior went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs in the 10-2 win. Keira Farritor got the scoring started with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. The junior had four RBIs.
Farritor and Alyssa Fortik both homered when Malcolm took down Scottsbluff in the second game of the day as the Clippers downed the Bearcats, 6-3. Emma Brown drove in two runs while also earning the win in the circle.
Malcolm opened the day with its only loss of the week, a 7-5 extra innings hiccup against Elkhorn North. The Clippers were within seconds of reaching the time limit when the final out of the sixth inning was recorded while Malcolm led, 2-1.
The game continued and the Wolves scored two to send it to an extra frame.

Back-to-back home runs resulted in four runs that put Elkhorn North up for good.
The Clippers traveled to Milford for a Sept. 1 triangular with the Eagles and Freeman. In the opener against the Falcons, Farritor, Fortik, Tekamah Bratrsovsky and Jessica Sandell each doubled in a 10-2 mercy rule win.
Ava Helms blasted a pair of home runs in the nightcap, a 9-4 win over No. 4 Milford. Fortik also homered while Farritor hit a two-run double. Brown struck out five while allowing just two earned runs.
Malcolm opened the week winning an eight-inning, 2-1 thriller in a Trailblazer Conference matchup at Ralston. A sacrifice fly to right field from Fortik was the game winner in a pitchers’ duel between Brown and the Rams’ Chloe Wagner. Brown fanned five Ralston batters while Wagner sat down 12 Clippers.
Malcolm (9-6) played at Lincoln Northwest in a Tuesday triangular with the Falcons (1-8) and No. 2 Beatrice (8-3). Malcolm outslugged LNW 11-1 but lost to Beatrice 5-2.
The Clippers head to Tekamah-Herman Saturday, Sept. 10, for a triangular with the Tigers (6-6) and Raymond Central (2-10).
