After being open in Seward since the 1980s, McDonald’s closed its doors on Dec. 5.
Jonathan Jank, president and CEO of the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership, said the chamber is sad to see the business go.
“McDonald’s has been a faithful member of the chamber ever since I’ve been here,” Jank said. “We are sad to see them leave. We never want to see a business have to close.”
Jank said the most recent owner of the local store was the Essig franchise. Essig “operates 38 restaurants across the greater Kansas City metro, St. Joseph, north-central Missouri areas and Lincoln, Nebraska,” according to their website. Jank said the Essig franchise took over the Seward location in 2022.
Jank said the McDonald’s building in Seward is owned by the McDonald’s corporation and will be sold. He said he’s received interest from people wanting to purchase the building.
“We’d love to have it stay a restaurant,” Jank said.
