Seward City quick hits

During the Seward City Council’s Nov. 6 meeting, the board:

• approved the 90 percent plans for the city’s Karol Kay Boulevard project, which will extend the road from Bader Avenue to Hillcrest Drive.

The 90 percent plans mean the design of the project is almost complete.

Approval of the plan also allows the state to negotiate for right of ways for the project on the city’s behalf.

City Administrator Greg Butcher said the city plans to hold another information session about the project for those who live near the area.

He also said the city will replace green space that will be removed by the road project. The plan is to create a walking area that connects to the city’s trail system.

• approved a maintenance agreement with the Nebraska Department of Transportation for $27,000.

Butcher said this is a continual agreement the city has with NDOT to maintain the highways through town.

He also said there were increases in the agreement. Surface maintenance increased from $1,575 to $2,100 per lane mile and snow removal increased from $500 to $655 per lane mile.

• designated city items as surplus. Butcher said some of these surplus items include a bucket truck from the electric department, a mower and other, smaller items.

• discussed the continuance of the city’s personnel, finance and audit committee. The board directed Butcher to draft a resolution that would change the board to an informal structure.

• entered into executive session to discuss the potential acquisition of real estate interests in Seward. No formal action was taken.
