Seward City Council appoints new member

The Seward City Council recently approved the appointment of a new councilman.

Matt Stryson was appointed Aug. 3 to fill a vacant seat left by former councilman Chris Schmit, who resigned in July because of a move out of the city.

Stryson was one of three applicants for the vacancy.

Seward Mayor Josh Eickmeier said the council was confident in its pick of Stryson, as he's previously served on the council and knows the importance of local government.

“I've known the Stryson family my whole life,” he said. “Matt has been very involved in the community, served on a number of boards and commissions, and has a great commitment to the community and wants to see Seward be successful.

“He has served on the council in the past as well. Given his experience as well as his past involvement in the community, he seemed like a natural fit to be appointed.”

Stryson's appointment is effective immediately.
