The Nebraska Door and Window Seward Seniors went 1-2 in their games last week, picking up a win over Lincoln Christian July 1 but losing to Channel Seed Post 143 June 30 and to Malcolm July 2.
In the 2-0 victory against Lincoln Christian, Seward outhit LC 6-5. Kyle Riley hit a double, and Deklan Lindau, Brycen Burt, Kolton Loos, Tyler Hammond and Cale Gardiner each singled. Burt and Riley drove in the team’s runs.
Burt also pitched all seven innings and struck out 10. He walked zero and allowed five hits.
The week started with a 6-3 setback against CSP in Springfield. Seward outhit its opponent 10-8, but a four-run fifth gave CSP a lead it didn’t relinquish.
Burt was 3-4 and Lindau and Bostyn Happ had two hits each. Burt, Lindau and Loos each doubled for Seward, and Loos drove in two runs.
Connor Sveeggen got the start, going 4.1 innings and striking out three. Lindau and Quin Berner pitched in relief.
The team didn’t have far to go for its final game of the week – just down Highway 34 to Malcolm.
The defending Class C state champions scored four runs in the first inning and made that hold up for a 4-2 win. Quinten Hibbert, Happ, Riley and Hammond singled for Seward’s four hits.
Loos pitched all six innings for Seward, striking out three and walking one while allowing 10 hits.
The Seniors (12-8) were to continue league tournament play through July 9, then play in a tournament in North Dakota Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12. Their next game is at Gretna Tuesday, July 15.
The Datavizion Seward Juniors’ only game was July 2 at Malcolm and ended with a 15-3 loss.
Malcolm outhit Seward 15-4. Blaise Schrad went 2-2 for Seward, and Hunter Harrison doubled and drove in one. Landon Pelster and Owen Evans drove in Seward’s other runs.
Pelster and Hibbert saw time on the mound for Seward.
The Juniors (5-10) start area tournament play Friday, July 11, at Wahoo. Pairings had not been released at press time.
