A director soon will be hired to run Seward’s new wellness center.

The city council approved an ordinance Feb. 7 creating an executive director position for the wellness center.

The director is one of many new positions that will be required to run the facility. Others include an assistant director, childcare director and facilities manager, as well as part-time and seasonal staff.

The city soon will begin advertising for the director position, which comes with a monthly salary range of $4,688-$5,467.

City Administrator Greg Butcher said the wellness center committee has met with BVH Architects and is working through details of design for each space within the facility.

The committee has visited other facilities in Hastings, Holdrege and Beatrice, as well as virtual visits with other locations, to gain insight into the day-to-day operations and what to expect.

Butcher said managers at all of those locations recommended having a director on staff at this point in the process to allow them to have as much input as possible.

Requests for proposals from potential construction managers will be reviewed by the end of February. The top three will be interviewed, with one selected to build the wellness center.
