Ramona F. King, 79, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in Lincoln because of complications from a stroke.

Ramona was born in Fairbury on Sept. 1, 1936, and was raised by her grandmother, Ida Mae Hazen. She graduated from Garland High School in 1954. On April 27, 1955, she married Karl King in Fairbury. They lived their married life in Seward.

Ramona was employed by the School District of Seward, first as a teacher’s aide and then as an elementary school secretary for 27 ½ years before retiring in 1993. After retirement, she continued to camp and travel, and she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. Winters were spent as snowbirds in their Arizona home.

Participation in many clubs and activities including membership to the United Methodist Church, Seward Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, Seward Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and being a Husker football season ticket holder for more than 40 years were all part of Ramona’s life.

Ramona enjoyed life, family, many friends and a good cup of coffee with the girls. She was always there to brighten the lives of others, and will be missed.

She leaves behind her husband, Karl; daughters and their husbands, Terry (Jim) Bretscher of Alta Loma, California, and Karla (Dan) Bennett of Lincoln; granddaughters, Kelley (Kyle) Bedrosian and great-grandson Jaxon of Newnan, Georgia, Kristen Bretscher of Griffin, Georgia, Kayla (Daniel) Bennett of Woodstock, Georgia, and Allison Bennett of Lincoln; half-brothers and their wives, Howard (Carol) Bristor of Fairbury, Mike (Carol) Bristor of Kansas and Harvey Bristor of Ohio; half-sisters, Phyllis Bullock of Colorado, Leta (Bob) Fisbeck of Fairbury and Vickie (Jim) Kuell of Colorado; sister-in-law, Elaine King of California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Bristor, and sister, Sherry Knudson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Seward United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dale Lambert officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Ramona King family for future designation.
