Patricia Joan (Scharmann) Meyer was born March 8, 1939 to Conrad and Ruth (Moody) Scharmann in North Platte, Nebraska and passed away in Utica, Nebraska on January 19, 2014. Pat was baptized and confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1957. She was inducted into National Honor Society and was a majorette while in high school. Pat attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for three years and the University of Nebraska Medical College for one year to complete her degree in Medical Technology. While at the UNL, Pat was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She attained the highest grade average of all of her sorority sisters two of the six semesters she was at UNL. After graduation she worked at UNMC and in 1961 married Roger Meyer, a medical student at UNMC. In 1963 the couple moved to Lincoln. Pat worked in the Pathology Lab at Bryan Memorial Hospital one year while Roger did an internship at Bryan. Pat then moved to Utica, Nebraska with her husband where she lived the remainder of her life except for the years she spent in nursing facilities.

Pat was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. In addition to being the primary parent in raising her and her husband’s children, Pat was involved in many community organizations. She was very active in Mrs. Jaycees soon after moving to Utica. During the year that Pat was president of the Mrs. Jaycees she was selected as for “Outstanding Young Woman of the Year Award” by the “Outstanding Young Women of America” organization. Later she was the Girl Scout Leader for several troops and coached many girls to achieve their Gold Award, the highest level in Girl Scouting. Pat was awarded the Thanks Badge I and Thanks Badge II, the two highest awards given to a Girl Scout Volunteer. She ran the Family Planning program in York, Nebraska until it was closed. She also did paramedical exams for insurance companies for several years and resumed working as a Medical Technologist at York General Hospital for ten years until dementia rendered her unable to continue and she was diagnosed with Frontal Lobe Syndrome. She was able to live at home until 2004 when she needed Nursing Facility care. Her condition gradually declined until her death.

Pat is survived by her husband Dr. Roger Meyer, daughter Cindy (Nick) Buresh and children: Dayne, Ellie and Jake of Lincoln, NE, son Paul and children: Nathan and Holly of Round Rock, TX and son Daniel (Heather) and children: Trenten, Kasha and Shayla of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her sister in law Barbara Scharmann, brother Darrell (Mary) Scharmann and sister in law JoAnn (Meyer) Kottmeyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lawrence, sister in law Denise Scharmann and brother in law Fred Kottmeyer, DDS.

We remember Pat as a very loving, caring and ambitious person who was loved and admired by all who knew her. It is very comforting to know that when Pat’s thought processes were still intact that she knew that she would spend Eternity in Heaven.
