Mary Ellen Hill was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away May 8, 2021, at the age of 85.

She was the wife of Harrison Hill, whom she was married to for 66 years. Together, they had three children.

Mary was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Wesley and Vivian (Kermeen) Petry on Nov. 29, 1935. Mary lived a life of service to her church (the United Methodist Church) and community for more than 30 years. She worked as an LPN at Seward Memorial Hospital and as a nurse in Dr. William Herpolsheimer’s office, serving the needs of his patients. She served three terms as Worthy Matron for the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 156 in Seward. In her retirement years she continued her love of gardening, knitting and crocheting.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Petry; sister, Rose Marie Duhrkopf; and her grandson, Jeremy Coonfield. Mary is survived by her husband, Harry; and her children, Sherrl (Mike) Coonfield of Bonaire Georgia, Matthew (Julie) Hill of Lincoln, and LaDonna (Albert) Abrevaya of Chalfont, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Anna (Burl) Richey; plus, many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to Mary’s memorial service at 11 a.m., Friday, May 14, at Scanlin Funeral Home, 175 E. Butler Ave., Chalfont, Pennsylvania, where the greeting will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Andersonville National Cemetery in Georgia at a later date.
