Margaret Ann (Harter) Trojan was born March 18, 1935, in Beaver Crossing to Frank and Rose (Walterscheid) Harter and passed away Sept. 23, 2022, at Ridgewood Rehabilitation and Care Center in Seward at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 5 days.

Margaret was a graduate of Beaver Crossing High School with the Class of 1953. On June 21, 1958, she was united in marriage to her classmate, Richard “Dick” Trojan. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in June of this year. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Her life revolved around her faith and family.

Margaret was a devout Catholic and was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was involved in the Altar Society and taught CCD classes. She attended every First Friday mass since 1961 until recently.

Margaret was active in the community and a 4-H leader for many years and also served as an election worker for Seward County for over 50 years. She worked at Leif’s grocery store while her children were school age and managed a detasseling crew in the summer for over 30 years.

Margaret enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid gardener. She had a large vegetable garden every summer. She preserved the summer harvest by canning and freezing, and they enjoyed the bounty throughout the year. Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed cooking and baking. She was known for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls. In her later years, she enjoyed entering baked goods and preserved items in the Seward County Fair. She enjoyed cross stitch embroidery and made each of her children and grandchildren several quilts.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Trojan; her parents, Frank and Rose Harter; sister, Maurine Schark; and brothers, Marvin Harter, Mahlon Harter and Robert Harter.

Survivors cherishing her memory include her three children and their spouses, Craig Trojan and fiancé, Patti Davis, Lincoln, Barry and wife, Jackie Trojan, Milford and Angela and husband, Mark Griffin, Marshville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Dillon (Brooke) Trojan, Crete, Denver (Kala) Trojan, Cresco, Iowa, Sara Trojan, Dallas, Texas, Garrett Griffin, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Nathan Griffin, Sierra Vista, Arizona; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean O’Connor, Seward, Lois Korinek, Lincoln, and Jerry Pariset, Beaver Crossing; and brother, Don Harter, Elkhorn; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Beaver Crossing. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, with Msgr. Mark Huber as celebrant. A graveside service and interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Beaver Crossing. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society.
