The Malcolm seniors (19-2) are hoping to pick up where the juniors left off. They opened the C3 Area Tournament in Yutan on July 23 with an 11-0 win over Louisville-Weeping Water. The next day, Malcolm beat Yutan in the winners’ bracket final, 10-2.
Malcolm beat North Bend 13-0 July 25 and topped 7-1 July 26 to advance to the state tournament which begins Saturday, July 30, in Wisner.
Malcolm will play Battle Creek Saturday at 5 p.m.
“The guys are really brimming with confidence right now,” Coach Brandon Rieschick said. “It’s been key for us to get out to big leads early and save pitching. We’re set up well for the rest of the tournament. We just need to play our style of ball and we’ll be in good shape for state.”
