Lily A. Guzman-Gonzalez

Nov. 13, 1962 – May 12, 2019

Lily Adelle Guzman-Gonzalez was born Nov. 13, 1962, in Rushville to Encarnacio ‘Eddie’ and Victoria (Corrales) Guzman. She passed away tragically on May 12, 2019, in Lincoln at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Lily grew up in the Scottsbluff area, where she attended Victory Hill Country School and later graduated from Scottsbluff Senior High with the class of 1981. She attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she studied education. On Aug. 17, 1991, Lily was united in marriage to Edward Joseph Gonzalez at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. To this union three children were born. Lily worked at NBC Bank in Lincoln until 2002. The family moved to Seward in 1999 as Ed worked in York and Lily in Lincoln. Lily then began working at Jones Bank, where she was a personal banker until her passing.

Her first love was her family, making sure they grew up in the Catholic faith. She loved dancing and singing around the house, being “silly Lily,” as Ed would call her. Her skill in the kitchen was well renown by family, friends and the community. Her specialty was enchiladas. She loved continuing the family tradition of getting together with loved ones and making dozens of tamales at Christmas time.

Lily enjoyed the outdoors such as gardening and taking the dogs for walks with her husband and friends. She inherited her mother’s love of reading, and the two would often trade books back and forth. Lily loved her community and watching sporting events at Seward High. She was heavily involved with the Junior Jays Baseball Organization, which she helped Ed create in 2009. She was active with the Seward Booster Club, a member of the Seward Youth and Community Club, a devout parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a host family in the Godparent program at St. Vincent’s and a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.

Lily is survived by her husband, Ed of Seward; her three children, Dario Jose of Florida, Liliana Graciela of Seward and Antonio Marcelo of Sioux City; parents, Eddie and Victoria Guzman of Scottsbluff; siblings, Nabor (Sally) Guzman of Scottsbluff, Dominic (Jackie) Guzman of Scottsbluff, Chabella Guzman of Scottsbluff and Manrique Guzman of Colorado; step-brother, Edward Hueneke of Washington; parents-in-law, Flavio and Esperanza Gonzalez of Lincoln; brother-in-law, John Gonzalez of Florida; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was a loved mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

A rosary service was held May 16, 2019, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on May 17, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward, with Monsignor Robert Tucker and the Rev. Rafael Rodriguez con-celebrating mass. A graveside service and interment were in Seward Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gonzalez family for future designation.
