Kathryn Elise (Varner) Overturf, a faithful woman of God, has passed away at the age of 77.

Born in Seward to Olga and Lester Varner, Kathryn had a life filled with purpose, kindness and laughter. Kathryn married Dwight Overturf in 1967 and would have celebrated her 56th wedding anniversary this June. She was a patient and loving mother to Kenneth Overturf and Julia Overturf Johnson. She was a dear mother-in-law to Cameron Johnson and was most proud to be a cherished grandmother to Rhys Johnson. Kathryn had numerous close friendships. Even acquaintances remembered her smile and authentic kindness. Most of all, her unwavering faith in God sustained her through the joys and challenges of life.

Kathryn was a graduate of Columbus High School, the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and University of New Mexico – Albuquerque. She was an elementary school teacher and special education aide during her career and also spent many years as a stay-at-home mom. Kathryn's faith was central to her life, and she was an active member of several Lutheran churches throughout the years. She was also an active member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and helped at Lutheran Social Ministries.

As we mourn the loss of Kathryn, we take comfort in the knowledge that she has been called home to join her parents and brother, Roger Varner, in eternal rest.

A funeral service to honor Kathryn's life and legacy will be at Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona, on Sunday, June 4, at 3 p.m., followed by an inurnment ceremony.
